How much of your internet download package do you actually use?

Almost one in 10 households subscribe to an unlimited data broadband package, yet download less than 1GB per month.

A survey for Broadbandchoices.co.uk also found 21% said they used just 2GB-10GB per month, well inside the download limits for many standard packages.

Customers may be overpaying for a service they are not using, and should compare their current deal with more relevant, cheaper alternatives.

As a result thousands of householders are wasting money on broadband packages they do not need.

The majority, 37%, don't even know how much they download in a month.

Sky offer broadband ‘free of charge' for customers of their satellite TV services, but with a low usage monthly usage limit of 2GB. Plusnet charge only £6.49 for a 10GB without needing to take a bundle.

Michael Phillips, product director at Broadbandchoices.co.uk, said: "Something as simple as providing a free download monitor would make a huge difference, by allowing customers to identify if they aren't making the most of their allowance."
